GAME FARM-AND DEER PARK.
The caretaker of the Paraparaumu . game farm,/Mr. E., Trask,, has proved •l himself to, be capable andreliable, and > has greatly improved the. appearance of the homestead. From, pheasants supplied to l«m last year., he succeeded in v,rearing about 100 well-grown and healthy birds: a-good performance for p : first attempt. ’/Fifty-six of these were ■purchased ,by. the- Council and liberated Levin, Palmerston N. and Johnsonvillc. Two hundred pheasants were from Mr. J. Dobson, of •Aratapu, • Dargaville. These rrere brought down by ranger C. H. Bould early in March, and safely •to various.ccntres without Iqss, and in thu.'fuO’vi' pfi jnany drawbacks; The Society rangers' have now brought from the u far..Horth over 500 birds, with the rloss .of-.,oulyjouc, .killed by a deck hand ou a steamer at/.-Helonsvillc. This is an .•excolleat'-perfonnance and is prob- - -.ably. a . record /for the distance. The pheasants were well-grown, healthy ‘lots; hs uifiuhlj.iand were distributed in various p/rts. Total cost of 256 pheasants purchased at, £l-0-9 each, £264.
