THE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.
SHOULD BE AT CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT? FARM. In view of the references at Monday’s meeting of the Levin Chamber of Commerce to the suitability of Levin as the site of the Agricultural College, it will be of interest to the Chamber to know that Mr J. Linklater, M.P. for iMahaiwatu, put in a word in season during Show Week at Palmerston. While proposing the toa«t of “The Dairy Factory Managers’ Association” at Ihe Matnawatu A. and P. Association’s smoke concert, Mr Linklater stressed the importaiice of 'scientific research with respect to the dairy industry. “The time has arrived.” he said, “when the Government should take into early consideration the establishment of an Agricultural College for the North Island, where the latest methods in dealing with the manufacture of our dairy produce would be taught and also where our young men could be taught all branches of fanning. Hawera did not now appear to be anxious for that college. Palmerston had no land whereon to build it and he felt, sure that, all present, would agree with him in saving that the best, place for the college' was on the Central Development Farm at Levin. There students could' receive practical, as well as theoretical training - , and after all a,n ounce of nra'ctice was worth a ton of theory. Hp asked the Minister of Agriculture who was present at the srathering to give due consideration to this suggestion when, ai ,sit.p for the North Island Agricultural College was -decided upon.’’
