RUGBY UNION MEETS.
I THE QUESTION OF BOUNDARIES. AFTER THE RANFURLY SHIELD. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union was held on. Tuesday, Mb- J. Procter being in the chair. There were also present Messrs Austin, Hutchings, Sciascia, McMillan, Casey and the secretary (Mr L. Carmichael). CORRESPONDENCE. . The secretary of the Taihape subUnion wrote that that body did not, as was stated by the Horowhenua Rugby Union, owe the latter body a. match, but were willing to play hi me and borne matches, if suitable to the Horowhenua Union. The chairmW expressed' the o{ inion thpt. Taihape was too far distant to make the arrangement' satisfv/nrv. Mr Casey supported this, saying that it flvould be better to keep to matches nearer home. He did not favour the Union travelling too much this year, but thought it would -be better if they, got into good form in preparation for a more ambitious programme next year.
-The chairman suggested that, a better idea than playing Taihape would her to challenge Hawkeis Bay for the Ranfurly Shield. (Laughter). After some discussion, however, in whiV the chairman pointed out that the match was not likely to be an' expensive one, as the challengers’ expenses were the first charge on' the “gate after the expenses of the game were paid, it was decided on the motion o f Mr Sciascia, seconded by, Mr Casey, that the T!a,’iha,pe sub-Union be written to explaining that owing to distance a home and home arrangement would not be suitable, the secretary being further instructed to- write to the New Zealand Rugby Union for conditions relating to the Ranfurly Shield.
The Wellington. Rugby Union wrote suggesting that for the proposed combined 'Wellington, Horowhenuia. and Manawat-u team to play New South Wales, the selectors should be appointed as fallows: Three from' Wellington, and -one from each of the other two Unions, or two from. Wellington and one from the other two combined.
Mr Casey moved that- a, suggestion be sent to the N.Z.R.U. that there be one selector appointed from each Union. Mr McMillan seconded the motion which was carried lyA letter wa-s received from the Wellington Bugbv Union suggesting that the proposed Manawatu, Horowhenua and, Wellington Unions combination, rlnv N.S..W. under the Wellington Union’s colours. — Agreed.
Tbe Department of Internal Affairs wrote acknowledging receipt of application for an art union. : In connection with this the secretary said that, it was necessary to arrange details ais soon as possible so as to get the money-raising scheme floated eaxly in the football season. He suggested that a committee be set up to deal with details. On the motion flf Mr Sciascia., seconded by Mr Hutchings. a committee consisting of the chairman, secretary, and Mr McMillan were set. up.
The secretary was instructed to write to the executive of the Otaki Mardi; Gras regarding gate-money from the match played in connection with, that effort.
Accounts amounting to £7 15s were passed for payment. QUESTION OF BOUNDARIES.
In connection wiih the boundaries of the Te Kawau sub-Union, the secretarv explained that he had conferred with officials of the Manawatu Union, and that there was no doubt that the sub-Union had encroached considerably on Horowhenua territory. The encroachment amounted to nine miles and whilst it was impossible for the Union to allow this to continue, he suggested that it would be undesirabint the present juncture to take steps which would prevent Te Kawau from carry in o- nut their competition arrangements.
