in the match a.ganst Wanderers on Saturday, Weraroa put up. Ifio best showing of the season, and although losing the game eventually by the narrow margin of 3-0, they had their opponents anxious right through the game -and until the end looked like scoring. . The Weraroa forward? especially played well together, and kept uu a sustained offensive. The backdivision'also were infinitely better in combination and defence work than in preceding games, and although their handling of the hail was not up to the standard of their opponent;'-, was nevertheless creditable. For the first quarter of an hour the game wa,s fast but uneventful, both teams playing a forward game and trying their weight out against one another, one incident being a nice run by" Wells who was only collared on the line. A series of passing rushes in which Jacobs, Jacob Utiku and Wil-
son figured, brought play down into Whites’ territory. Weraroa challenged and at half-way Wells again got the ball but was collared 10 yards from the line, the ball going out. From the throw in a free kick took play back to half way. Weraroa continued to press and a mark at the 25 gave Hopa a useful shot at goal, which, however, failed ' to come off. Wanderers in turn adopted the offensive Jacob getting the ball at halfway and .passing to Wilson, who threw to Tohi WTniala, who was collared and the ball going over the line among the forwards. Ferris forced. Wanderers continued to press and from a line out at the 25 Wilson took the ball and with a fine dodging run looked like scoring, but found Ferris equal to the situation. He transferred to Winiata, who was in turn collared, and play went back , to half way until half-time. The second, half opened with a spell of loosq, play, Wanderers gradually forcing Weraroa back. At the 25 long kick by Weraroa, was taken b\ Johns, who kicked up field and followed up fast. N6pia diving in and securing the ball, carried it across and scored near the corner, the shot at goal failing. Score 3—o. I Weraroa livened up and kept Wall- , derers defending in their 25 for the next ten minutes, Jacobs relieving by a kick to the line at- the 25.' From the throw in, another determined attack looked like scoring, but wa> saved by a fine kick by Kerione to half way. Wanderers in turn attacked arid Jacobs getting the ball at. bait way carried it for 30 yards, transferring to Wilson. Wilson threw out to Johns, who had a clear rim, but who failed to take the nasc. and the hall went out. \ connle of, nice parsing rushes by Wanderers, both started by Jacobs, followed, and looked like scoring, arid a nasty situation was relieved by a charge by the Weraroa forwards headed by Cole, which carried them down into the opposing 25. where Hopa got the hall and was only collared on th'e line. The most exciting spell of the game followed, five five-yard scrums : taking place within as many minutes. Jacoby eventually finding the line at the 25. Weraroa returned to- the attack and took the ball over, hut could not m-nyent Jacob . T’tiku forcing. For the remaining cmarter hour of the game.
