MEETING OF RUGBY UNION.

The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, was held on Tuesday evening, Mr J. Procter being in the chair. There w'ere also present Messrs .Sciascia, Grimstone, Hutchings, McMillan, Austin, and the Secretary Mr L. Carmichael. Reports of referees and gatekeepers lor last Saturday’s matches were received. A. Bevan, of Hui Mai, who was stood on the line at last Saturday’s Wan-derers-Hui Mai match for alleged swearing, waited on the committee and denied having committed the offence complained oi. He explained that he was in the middle of a; crowd of players where such language may have been used, but for which he was not responsible. Jacobs, who was alongside Bevan at the time the alleged offence was committed, support, ed this statement, and on the motion of Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Grimstone, it was decided that as a doubt existed no action be taken. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Sciascia, the secretary was empowered to procure ten more rep. jerseys. , A letter was received from the Wanganui Union protesting against the allocation of New Zealand rep. selectors, and it was decided to give support to that Union in its protest. Agreed that the dalte suggested for the rep. match against Taranaki, August 22nd, be accepted. Moved by Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Hutchings, that Shannon have the preference of No. 1 ground at that place, in the caise of two games of the same grade being played there.—Carried'.

Moved hy the chairman, seconded by Mr Sciascia, that Mr R. Smith and Mr Grim,stone be classification officers for the present season.—Carried. It was decided that the RoversWeraroa junior game, be played as a curtain-raiser to the Manawatu rep. fixture. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
