NURSE FOR MANGAHAO.

ARRANGEMENTS TO BE MADE IMMEDIATELY.

yesterday morning a meeting was held at Shannon to consider the matter of having a district nurse at Arape?.i and Mangahao camps. There wtere present Sir James Wilson (chairman), Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., Mr W. Murdoch and Mr Fraser (secretary),

representing the Palmerston North

Hospital Board; Mr Dinnie (Public Works Department), Mr Grainger (Mangahao Medical Association), Mr Gunning (Shannon Borough Council) and Dr. Macdonald.

Sir James Wilson stated an application had been filed on behalf -of the workers for a district nurse for the Arapeti and Mangahao camps offering a donation of £IOO per annum, which would be subsidised by the Health Department by 24/- in the £. The Department had replied that they were agreeable, providing the Mangahao 'Medical Association donated £IOO per annum. The Department were agreeable to subsidise to the extent of £l2O.

Mr Grainger, on behalf of the Association, said he would guarantee the £IOO. He stated the chief difficulty would be in finding suitable accommodation. He was not sure if the Public Works Department would give accommodation.

Mr Dinnie promised to see what he could do. There was every possibility of the difficulty being overcome. Mr Nash thought the full amount of salary offered by the Public -Health Department, viz., £2OO per annum, ought to be given as living conditions for the nurse, would be harder than in town.

Sir James Wilson said it was incumbent upon! the Association to make the nurse as comfortable and to give all the conveniences possible. He bad no doubt the people of Arapeti would be only too willing to help give the nurse a good start. The nurse, if appointed, was to be unconditionally under the authority of the Hospital Board, that is that she would be bound to do her best for nil the people in that particular district, whether they belonged to the Association or not, but the Hospital Board would endeavour to collect fees from non-contributors to the Association, such fees to be placed to the credit jof the Association with the Hospital Board. Tt was finally -arranged that the matter of accommodation be gone into right away and when satisfactory terms had been come to, the Hospital Board would can for applications straight away. The meeting then concluded.

Mr Nash moved ai vote of thanks to Mr Murdoch for the reception given the visiting members.
