RUGBY REFEREES MEET.
THE ASSOCIATION RE-FORMED. The annual meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Referees’ Association was held in Levin on Saturday, there being present Messrs Burrows, Wehipeinana, Kingi, Seymour, Procter, Karauti, Bevan, Rose, Sciascia, Carmichael and Casey. Mr L. S. Carmichael was voted to the chair. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of LI 18/6 '.and wa s adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J. J.. O’Connor; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Rose and T. Parata; hon secretary and treasurer, Mr R. A. Sloan; management committee, Messrs Revan, Sciascia and Casey; examination committee, Mr H. Karauti; vice-president to N.Z.R.R.A., Mr H. Karauti; delegate to N.Z.R.R.A., Mr H. Mcßain (Lower Hutt); appointment committee, Mr R. A. Sloan with power to add.
It was suggested Jay some members that it might Ibe in the interests of Rugby to have an appointment committee composed of representative,; of the Rugby Union and the Referees’ Association. An amendment to the motion electing Mr ; Sloan to the above position was moved, which provided for representation of the Rugby Union, but on its being pointed out that the rules of the Association did not provide for representation by an outside body, the amendment'was ruled out ol order. On the motion of Mr Procter, seconded by Mr Karauti, the following resolution was passed : That this Association regrets to learn of the death of Mr Higgins, sometime secretary and earnest .worker for the Referees* Association. The motion was carried in silence* all standing.
It was decided to forward a copy of the resolution to the deceased gentleman’s relatives. It- wag decided that referees send in a statement of their, expenses each month.
On the motion of Mr Bevan, seconded by Mr Sciasea, it was decided that the secretary write lo all referees with a view to their joining the Union. Arrangements for a place of meeting were left in the hands of Mr Proc. ter.
Mr Burrows gave notice of the following motion: “That the ; Association meet on Tuesday nights.
A vote of thanks to the chair con eluded the meeting.
