MINIATURE RIFLE CLUBS.
NO EXEMPTION FROM FIREARMS ACT. WEDLINGTON, May 22. Representatives of the local minia-; ,ture Rifle Clubs waited upon Sir Frances Bell, Minister ,of Justice, today, and asked hint to suspend the Arms Act so far as it prevented clubs from carrying oil, - They also suggested that th e Act should be amended so as to enable--rifles: to be registered in the name, of the secretary and made available l'or thg use of bona fide members, The Minister, in reply, said that they might as well repeal the Act altogether as i comply with the requests. In the interests- of public safety, he could not interfere seriously with the Act. It was diflicult to grant exemptions from the provisions of the.. Apt for it was conceivable that a gang of burglars might form a rifle club and claim any exemptions allowed; He would consult the police, gjad. see if it was possible to do anything.
