MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.
ENGINEER COMMENCES SURVEY
Mr Hay, engineer of the Manaw.itnOroua River Board, commenced the survey of the land between Wliirokino and Hartley’s Bend to-day. ’I his is the commencement of the survey t-o ascertain which is the best route to put in -a relief cut to drain the water from Mou-toa and to avoid the long and circuitous course between’Whirokino and Hartley’s Bend and to find tbe most economic route to serve the interest- of the whole district to the best advantage. This survey will take two or three weeks to complete. The survey deals with the first or lower cut, which will be undertaken first as a matter of principle. , The whole survey will take about six months to complete.' and will cm brace both'sides of the Manevat river up to’Linton, both sides c ; f ’h Oroua river to Kopane, together whh surveys on the lines of all po-. 'blc overflow channels or "cut-offs.”
