AMATEUR HEARS MESSAGE AT 8000 MILES. WITH SINGLE VALVE. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Auckland message about wireless receiving' from America pales bcsdes the record of a Dunedin amateur, Mr R. Slade, who. using only one valve, hears every night -American amateur stations sending on less than one hundred watts. One station, 8,000 miles away, sending' on 80 watts was picked up distinctly.
