CHAMPION PAIRS COMPETITION

At the champion of champions pairs competition under the auspices of the ‘ Manuyvatu Bo'wiing Centre at Palmers* ton North on Wednesday, the champion pairs of Shannon—Messrs Shannon and Knowles—took part. In the first found they met Terrace End (Ashton and Tantrum) suffering defeat by three points. Following are the particulars of the game.— Terrace End (Ashton and Tantrum) 18 v. Shannon (Shannon and Knowles) 15. The visitors opened their scoring account with a two on the first head and a three at the second gave them an advantage of five. Terrace End gained 1,1, 1,2 on the next four heads, making them all square at the sixth. Shannon, however, again went away with 2,1, 2,2, on the 7th, 9th, JOfh and 11th heads, their opponents taking the Bth with a single. The game stood at 12—6 in favour of the visitors at the 11th head, but thereafter the home team scored freely, and with a run of 2,2, 4,3, held a lead oT five at the 15th head. Shannon took the next two heads with a single and a two, while Terrace End secured a single on the final head, thus leaving them three up.
