TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
REMITS ENDORSED BY CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, Last Night. At the Technical Education Conference to-day, the following remits were passed:,— That in view of the greater difficulties of organisation in technical schools, their regulations should be amended to allow of working conditions at least as good as those of secondary schools. That the Minister of Education be asked to appoint immediately a woman inspector and organise the teaching of the home science subjects in the primary, secondary, and technical schools of the Dominion.
That before any changes affecting the internal organisation of technical high schools, such as the standardisation of text books, are adopted, the Minister be asked to place proposals' before the annual May conference. That the attention of the Minster' be drawn to the difference in salaries: payable to. technical teachers in thegeneral division, as compared with primary toaciiers ) and that he be asked to l arrange for better salaries for the former
Other remits asked for (1) house allowance for directors of the smaller technical schools; (2) 26 per cent, technical capitation. It was suggested that a sliding scale be adopted; (3) manual capitation to be fixed by the Department early in the year.
