FOOTBALL AFFILIATION.

THAMES REJECTS A PROPOSAL. THAMES, May 17. Delegates from the Thames Valley Rugby Union met the Thames Union last night in an endeavour to affiliate the Thames with the Valley. Thames at preesnt is affiliated to Auckland. Mr Silcock (president) stated that the New Zealand' Union desired that the position be considered in the interests of better football and big fixtures. The proposal was not well received. Finally it was resolved: “That having heard the delegation the Thames cannot see its way clear to affiliate with the Thames Valley Union.” It was pointed out that the Auckland matches were the foundation of Thames finance, and travelling expenses would be much heavier in sending teams up the valley.
