Referring to the amount of £260,000 authorised for Electric Power development in the Hurowhen.ua Electric Power district, Mr Monk explained that this money was never expected to he called up, and the amount had been intentionally fixed above the expected requirements in order to obviate the necessity, under unusual circumstances, of having to go to the ratepayers for a fresh authorisation. In fact, he explained, with the drop in the price of materials, amounting in many instances to as much as 30 per cent., the work would be done at considerably less than the original estimate.
