The game between these two teams took place on the'Recreation Grounds at Shannon on Saturday, and was a clean hard-fought game right through,, the result being a true indication of the evenness of the -two teams. Owing to the greasy state of the ground play was mostly confined to the forwards, but nevertheless some fine passing rushes by the hacks of both teams Avere Avell carried out. The defence of both sides Avhen taxed AAms solid. In scrum Avork Shannon on nearly every occasion secured t.he ball, but did not, seem to gain much by the advantage: Shannon won the toss and elected to defend the northern goal. Jacob kicked off for Wanderers, Shannon (reds) returning to half Avay. with a dribbling rush, Avhere L. Johns marked and Wanderers folloAving up carried play to the Red 25 where they were aAvarded a free kick for off-side play in front of the post. Jacob avis entrusted with the kick hut failed. On the ball going into play again Reds carried it near the Blacks’ 25, where from a scrum Johansen dribbled the ball over the Blacks’ line, the latter forcing. Play wa.§ again carried into Bed 25 and then returned to cenlre where Jacob Avith a fine kick and following up look the ball to Reds’ line Holden forcing. Then folloAved a series of scrums, Sullivan carrying play to Blacks’ 25. By a dribbling rush play Avas returned to mid-field, whore, the Bed hacks by a good passing rush ogain bad the Blacks defending in their 25. Jacob relieving by finding the line. On the ball being thrown out R Moynihan headed n dribbing rush >nto Black territory. AA-here Lenihan made a big bid for first blood, lull lost the ball on the line. Kelly, by a fine return kick still kept play in Black. 25 Avhere Berks Avere penalised a couale of yards from line. Blacks now bok j a turn of attacking and bad Shannon bard pressed, Kelly saving Avith a mark, but Blacks again returned 'he attack and Jacobs securing the ball and Avith a fine pass sent it out to ■ Kerebona. on the Aving who scored a! the comer. Half time went, soon after with play again in Bed 25. On resuming, play lowered for some time in mid-field Avhere T. Moynihan secured the ball and took play into Black 25. Avhere he was tackled, no passed the ball but no one being there to take it., ii Avent out. On the ball being put in play. Blacks by a series of dribbling rushes carried the leather near Reds’ 25. but the latter returned to the attack and once more bad Blacks’ defending their 25. Ucrr Beds Avere awarded a free luck, but Keltv’s attempt fell short. Play t or some time centred around Blacks' 25 hot the latter’s defence was too sound, eventually Bads Avere awarded a free kick, but Kelly’s aitem-nt failc' b level the score. Soon after McKe '/.i° secured the ball and passing to Holden who in turn sent it on to Ketlv. " kicked and following it up in company Avith T. Moynihan. the idler scored.
