A TOKOMARU FUNCTION.
The Tokomaru Hull was en fete on Friday evening, when an entertainment in aid of the Anglican church, funds was held, lliie success of the' evening was due largely to the efforts of Mrs Thompson and Miss Kelly, Avho trained the children for the various items. The programme opened Avith the Avell-known character song “Ten Little Nigger-Boys,” each of the ten hoys chosen: causing much amusement by carrying out his part Avtih great promptitude. The next item, presented .was' the “Maypole Dance” by the young gills, with Miss Miarjory Free as the queen. This item Avas •splendidly rendered, being quite an innovation, as moily ol the local residents Avere unfamiliar with its intricacies. The pole w!as prettily draped and crowned with a floral bell, and the dresses of the children, red, Avhite, blue .and orange, made an attractive picture. A dainty little dialogue entitled “Tihe Doll Show,”-by seven girls was next, introduced, : and charmed the audience. Then again the maypole ribbons -were.- requisitioned, this time by the tuiy girl's, who diainced daintily through like so many fairies, responding to. the Avhistle in a welltrained manner. Each item met with hearty applause, and the children then daced together till supper was announced. While the children Avere regaled Avith. delectable cakes provided by the committee, the adults continued dlancing, the music being supplied by Miss Sanson,• who l journeyed from Otaki for the occasion. Mr Norman Whyte ably carried out the duties of M.C. and an enjoyable evening terminated at one o’clock.
