HARDING’S FIRM STAND.
ADOPTION OF PROPOSAL ASSURED. COURAGE COMMANDED. (Received Thursday, 9,5 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 25. The “New York Times" Washington correspondent says President Hard, ing's speech had a remarkable over, night effect. There had been previously threats of a split in tlie Repub. lican'Party if President Harding suppoi'ted the World Court. To-day there is a different feeling. The opinion is that the President has frightened some of tlie most pronounced critics of his policy, and predictions are now made that the Court will be adopted by the Senate by a large majority, only a few Republican irreconcilables voting against the measure, which will have the support of virtually all tlie Democrats and the larger number of Republicans. Press comment throughout tlie country seems favourable to the Court, although some portions of the Republican newspapers are still against the measure. Editorial com. inent stresses the courage of President Harding, and the fact that he has now assumed the real leadership Of his party.
