MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
TUESDAY NIGHT’S ELECTION.
‘The interest taken in the election of Mayor and' Councillors was evidenced by the large attendance in the Maoriland Theatre on Tuesday evening, it was stated it was the largest meeting of its kind yet held, in Shannon. Murdoch (the Mayor) together with the retiring councillors, occupied the platform, during the fi : rsT; r pai%; after which Mr Fargher addressed the electors in furtherance of his candidature for the Mayoralty, he being followed by the new aspirants for municipal honours.
Mr Murdoch as retiring Mayor gave a resume of the work done by the Council during it s term, which included the housing scheme and the floating of the loan lor the water supply scheme. He also submitted the balance sheet for the past year, pointing out that in regard to raising the loans ail the money had been secured at per cent, which he considered was a credit to the Council.
The retiring councillors also, spoke on the year's work and at the same time placed their views bef ore the electors in furthering their candidature for re-election to the Council.
Mr Fargher’s address was mainly on the lines of Thursday night’s speech.
On the new aspirants for the Council coining forward to speak they were greeted vHth rounds of applause. Each one said a lew words and endeavoured to show he had the interests of the town at heart and if elected would do his best to bring about progress.
