RED PEPPER IN HER ROOM.

WHAI A WOMAN CONJURED UP. Spiritualism with the aid of a bottle (says the Christchurch ‘Sun’) seemed to have ben the achievement of Jean Millard, aged thirty-three, a neatlydressed woman, who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., with helpless drunkeness. The lady told a constable a thrilling asti'al story about seeing two men sprinkle red pepper in her l oom while she was asleep, and wanted to be taken to the hosjital to have some substances they had injected into her back removed. Constable D. M’Kenzie said that he saw accused helplessly drunk in Barbadoes street, on April 1. She told him that two men had tried to hypnotise her. They had sprinkled red pepper in her room while she was asleep. Witness asked her how she knew if she was asleep ,and she that though she was Asleep she saw them.

She also said that two men and a woman had injected something in her back, and she wanted to go to the hospital to have it removed. ‘‘l had been to church, and was taken very ill,” said accused. “The priest gave me a cup of tea and said that I could go to Mount Magdala until I was well. The constable was waiting outside, and told me to come along with him.” Senior-Sergeant F. Lewin said that the Mount Magdala authorities were willing to take the woman. Accused: I would sooner go to my sistei-’s place in Auckland. Mr Widdowson: You were suffering from the effects of drink, and were on the verge of delirium tremens. You will have to pay 17/G medical expenses, in default forty«)ight hours’ imprisonment. That will complete your restoration probably.
