SHANNON WIN CRICKET CONTEST

FINAL MATCH ON SATURDAY. On Saturday afternoon, Weraroa and Shannon-met in the final of the liorowhenua cricket championship lor the. season.- Both teams were level on points, and Shannon won the match hy 14 runs, thus taking the 1923 premiership. For the final of a competition, the game was disappointing, the only spectacular efforts being the hatting of Grainger and Condor. The wicket was dead and. seemed to baffle the batsmen, the only man who really appeared to get the. stfengli of the' howling being Grainger, who put up a useful 32 for Shannon before beingbowled. O’Connor won the toss and sent Shannon to the crease. Shannon started badly having two men out without opening* their .-scoring, and the prospect for the visitors looked anything-but-bright until the Grain gey, —mint partnership opened. Grainger soon got the strength of the howling" and quickly began to score'with clean, crisp shots all. round the wicket. Hunt —after playing a patient innings for 13 , runs—was bowled, by O’Connor.Plain also played a safe game for H before being put out- l.b.w. to O’Connor. The remainder of the team was disposed of without difficulty. Levin also opened inauspiciousiy having two wickets flown for 11. Condor played good cricket for his 21 and Weraroa would probablyvjiave fared better could, this players have got a partner who could have stayed with him. Hughes' looked like making a start at one time but was epught out off Morgan. In flie bowling O’Connor and Randal] showed up well, Ihe former faking S wickets for 25 and Randall 7 for 17. Condor’s fielding was-a feature of the game, whilst liis batting was also distinctly good. .. Following are the scores—
