ALLEGED THEFT.

MANAGER OF BOYS' TRAINING FARM ARRESTED.

CHARGED AND REMANDED

On Saturday afternoon Detective Nuttall, of Wellingtan, arrested Frederick Marryatt, late manager of the Boys' Training Farm at Weraroa, on a -charge of theft from an inmate of the institution.

Accused was bro'ught before Messrs. H. J. Richards and P. W. Goldsmith, J.'sP., later in the afternoon, and the following charge preferred against him: "That on or about February 20, 1921, he did receive the jum of £2 0/6 on terms requiring him to account for or, pay the same to Ihe Post Office banking account of one Cyril Robertson. At the time of receiving the said money he was an officer of the New Zealand Government as manager of the Weraroa Boys' Training Farm, and he converted the said money to his own use and thereby committed the crime of theft.".

On the question of bail, Detective Nuttall said other charges were pending, but he would not object to accused's release on bail provided substantial sureties were forthcoming. ' Accused was then remanded to appear at the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, on March 26. The* Bench admitted him to bail on his own recognisance of £250, and two sureties of £250, or one of £SOO.
