ITS FUNCTIONS. What is a ratepayers’ association? Wliat good will it do? How does i work? 5 Is it being formed to serve the ends of any particular individual? Who may become members? What are its powers? Such and other questions have lately been asked iegarding the proposed Shannon Ratepayers and it may he o< interest, not only to ratepayers but to the general public as well to know some of the functions of such a body. . A ratepayers’ association consists of those people who pay rates, or of the husbands of ratepayers who do not wish to attend meetings. Its functions are legion especially in such a young borough as Shannon, and the good it can do may be far-reaching. m a borough like this, which is barely out of the chrysalis stage, there: are .numerous questions that need discussing by those who pay for them. It is not being formed to serve the selfish ends of any one individual, though any ratepayer o rcitizen may appeal to it for guidance or support. It’s P ur P°s® will be a ' wide one. It s ami—the god of Shannon as a whole. It may from time to time approach the Borough Council on any questions and offer suggestions for their solution. It may, if necessary, act as the protector of its members or of any citizen that seeks assistance. As a body its powers, so far as this borough i& concerned, shall be of great value in helping to modernise the town. It will place before the people the welfare of their borough, and keep municipal affairs on a perfectly clean, high and unbiased pedestal. . It is hoped that Thursday night s meeting .in the Parish Hall will be largely attended by ratepayers who have the good of Shannon at heart, and of those who wish to voice any grievances against things as they stand at present.
