M.C.C. v. N.S WALES.

ENGLISH MAKE 296 IN SECOND STRIKE. CALTHORPE HITS 110. \ (Received Monday, 7.20 p.m.) ; SYDNEY, March 5. The weather was fine and the wicket; good, but the atendance small for the concluding day of - the match M.C.C. v. New South Wales. Play commenced an hour earlier to enable the Englishmen to catch the Melbourne express. Calthorpe settled down 'to a patient innings, but soon lost Hill-Wood, who was caught be. hind. Chapman gave a glimpse of his earlier brilliancy, when Hendry terminated his career with a high lefthanded catch at fine slip. Titchmarsh and Calthorpe added sixty runs before Mailey claimed the former, who stepped across the wicket in endeavouring to pull a ball to square-leg. Kelleway, at cover-point, caught Me. Lean next ball. Calthorpe reached his century after three hours and twenty minutes, but' pulled Hendry into the wickets ten runs later. The effort, which was invaluable, but colourless, gave three chances. _ Mailey’s bowling was a remarkable mixture of good balls and rubbish. Like Kelleway and Scott, his average suffered through faulty fielding on. the New South Wales side, which was far below representative standard. Freeman and Gibson delighted the spectators with a lively last-wicket part, nership, adding forty-four in fifteen minutes. ' M.C.Cr First innings 275 Second Innings.
