FIRE BRIGADES’ DEMONSTRATION.
DANNEVIRKE WINS SIMPLEX SHIELD. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The biennial demonstration .by the United Fire Brigades’ Association was continued to-day. Conditions were practically ideal, the sun shining brightly throughout the day, and the wind not being strong enough to in. terfere with the proceedings. There was a fair attendance. By winning the hose, hydrant, and union (five men) event, Dannevirke secures possession of the Simplex Shield, and as a result of its victory in the hose, hydrant and ladder (fivemen) event, Onehunga annexes the Merryweather Shield, as will be seen from figures published below, Hillside Railway has a substantial lead for the Aggregate and High Pressure Shields, the awarding of which depends on various competitions. Results: —;

Hose, hydrant and ladder (five men). —Onehunga 1, Hillside Railway 2, Alexandra 3, Greymouth 4, Thames 5, Carterton 6, Taumarunui/ 7. Following are the leading teams in the contests for the Aggregate ana High Pressure Shields:—
