Much interest was taken in the poJl ol ratepayers yesterday _ ior the purpose oi raising £II,OOO lor installing a high-pressure water supply for Shannon. The number of' votes recorded during the . morning was very small, .but in the afternoon the returning officer, Mr J. T. Bovis, was kept busy. Now that Shannon has decided on a water supply, drainage and lighting will naturally follow, and we feel sure? that at no distant date Shannon will become a town that we shall all feel proud of . ' Interviewed, the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) said he naturally felt pleased at the result. He had bqen confident the loan would be carried, but he did not expect such a big majority in its favour. He stated the loan would be gazetted immediately, and the necessary arrangements made for a start, with the work. He anticipates the residents will have water in about twelve months’ time, but lie was doubtful if there would be the full’supply before Mangahao was completed.
