Y.M.O.A. EASILY DEFEATS SHANNON More than usual interest centred in the Y.M.C.X.-Shannon match on the Levin ground, on Saturday. There was only a difference oi two points in 'the: positions oi the teams, and n was expected that the game would be very close. Y.M.C.A. put a strong side in the field, but Shannon was without the services of one or two of its hest players. However, that does i not detract from the merit of the win registered hy the home team, who won with -very nearly .an innings to spare. Shannon hatted first and opened with Grainger and Parsons, the latter taking strike to' Auckram! The fifth hall produced a single. This brought Grainger opposite the howler, and. the next ball the Shannon skipper put into Field's hands at slip. ■Hunt' followed/ but when ho had six on and the total 11, Auckram dislodged his wicket. Handali filled the vacancy, only to fall a victim to Auckram's next ball. Parsons and Prain raised the total to ill, when the former, who had batted patiently for 14, gave a chance to Moodie off Field, which was accepted—four wicekts lot 21. With the assistance of Harris, Prain increased the total to 29, when be played Field on to the wicket. The remaining lour wickets produced four runs, and the innings closed with the small score of 31, Parsons being tba only batsman to reach double figures. Auckram and Field bowled unchanged throughout and secured the good averages of five for 14 and five for 1? respectively. Y.M.C.A. coiik inenced their innings with Martin and Field, Grainger opening the Shannon attack. Each batsman notched a single in the first four balls, but the sixth was fatal to Martin, who had his wicket upended. The next three wickets fell cheaply, and the score was four lor 24 when Bennett and Widdas became associated.'' They soon passed the Shannon total, and with 29 to his credit and the score at 61, .Bennett played Grainger on. Widdas continued to score, but had the bad luck to be run out when he had 29 opposite his'name. Hudson (14) helped to ,reach the 90's, and at. 95 the innings ! closed. Grainger took five wickets for 28, Kami all one for 21, and Morgan three for 2:>. Shannon scored 67 ;.ih their second strike, saving an innings deieat l;y three runs.
