THE DOG TAX.
RATE FIXED FOR YEAR. “House dogs should have a higher , tax put on t-he.m than 10/,’' said Cr. Ryder at Saturday’s meeting ol the Horowhenua County Council, when the question of'the tax was raised. Cr. Monk (chairman): There are not many house or sporting dogs in this county. Cr. Harkness asked what was the result ol tlje commission paid the collector of the tax last year. Was any more money collected? The County Clerk: Not so much as there ought to be. On the chairman’s motion, seconded by Cr. Ryder, the tax for the coming' year was fixed at 2/6 for sheep and cattle dogs, and 10/’ lor house and sporting dogs. ’ ,
