CORRESPONDENCE.
THE WATERWORKS LOAN.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l sincerely trust the waterworks loan to be voted on the 26th of this month will be carried. I often feel amused when listening to the street-corner talk about progress in Shannon. I would like some person to let me know, how a township can ever be expected to progress without a supply of water. It is surely clear to the average person that capital will never be spent in Shannon without fire protection.. The, first sign of development in any place is the estabI lishment of a good water supply, •which is usually the forerunner of sewerage, lighting, good streets and other things, all of which Avill cost money, but the expenditure is more than made up by increased values, good health and general convenience. On the 26th inst. let us enlarge our outlook with a view to taking our place with other towns. Let us stop carrying water. —I am, etc., HEALTH. • • ♦Shannon, February. 10, 1923.
