ADVENTURES OF HUNTING PARTY.
TALL STORIES FROM VAAL RIVER. Reports of the presence of an aiuphibitous monster in the Vaal river have disturbed the wonted tranquility of Wuldcck’s Plant. It is described by those who profess to have seen it as a hooded python, arid tall stories are told of its size and characteristics. • The other day two of the most adventurous spirits of the place set out on a small craft in order to administer the coup de grace to the unwelcome visitant. They arrived at the scene, and it is said confronted the intruder,
and in the presence 'Of a small but ex* cited body of spectators, a crack local marksman took deadly aim.
But to the consternation of all there was no outward indication of the victim making his exit. On the contrary he assumed a more militant attitude than ever and evinced a lively tion to get at close quarters with the sportsmen, with the result that a frantic. rush was made by them for the nearest bank.
There have been many stories of the re-appearance of the reptile, which is. described as 18£ feet long and six to nine inches in girth, with chocolatewhilc a silvery streak runs from chin t to tail on the under side, but the head is reputed to be the most formidable and terrifying feature of the stranger.
All the disasters that have been experienced for a decade aro attributed to the enemy, who is said to devour stock wholesale. A properly organised expedition is being equipped to deal en masse with the troublesome marauder first time conditions and circumstances are -deexped propitious.
