BOWLING.
On. Monday last R. Quarrie and J. W. Murray journeyed, to Palmerston North to join in a game of bowls against New South Wales;•The rink was made up as follows: Geo. Stephenson (P.N.), J. W. Murray (Shannon), Ford Hankins (P.N.), Geo. Quarrie, skip (Shannon). The game resulted: Shannon 25, New ■ South Wales 21.
The players- speak very 1 highly of the fine sporting spirit of the-, visitors. Alter play in the evening the visitors were entertained at a smoke concert in the Palmerston howling pavilion. They all expressed the opinion that New Zealand was a glorious country. The second round' for the Triangular Shield took place on the local ground on Wednesday afternoon, all the games being keenly contested,. •and a most pleasant afternoon spent/ Eight rinks took part, Shannon four and Levin’ and Foxton two each, i During the afternoon, tea was dispensd by tlie ladies, and was much appreciated. Shannon: Aim, Clayton, Roach, Murphy (skip) 17, v. Levin, Clements (skip) 37. ' Shannon: Gardner, E. Butt, McKegg, Gagliardi (skip) 19, v. Foxton: Roore (skip) 20. Shannon: Cooper, Gunning, Quarrie, Fargher (skip) 13, v. Levin: Harris (skip) 22. > Shannon: Shannon, Murray, Spencer, Knowles (skip) 18, v. Foxton, Nye (skip), 13. On the afternoon’s play the aggregates are Shannon 67, Levin 57, and Foxton 33.
The third round for The Shield will be held) at Levin on February 28.
