Following 'on yesterday afternoon, ■,the. combined eleven werq dismissed for 96 (Eyre 20, F.-Hoar 19). The M.C.C. second innings produced something in the nature of a rot, 'six wickets faffing for. 53 runs. .The howling' of Bennett and Massey of the combined teaih was particularly good, and the fielding keen. The Horowhenua • competition matches to-morrow are: Weraroa' v. Public Works at Levin, and Y.M.C.A. v. Foxton at Foxton. Shannon has a bye. Public. Works shaped much better against Y.M.C.A. in the , second innings last Saturday, and had time permitted would have run their opponents very close. - Hernmingson 13 and 17 was the best bat for Public Works, and is easily the best all-round player in the team. Morgan,, of - Public Works,, although nog a prolific scorer, takes some getting rid of, and was > the not out man in both innings. Public Works have a good boV coming on in young Roach. He has had some grounding- at the High School, and handles the willow in a Way that suggests lie will make a. player. . .

Pope and Hernmingson bowled throughout both innings for. Public Works, and, in dismissing Y.M.C.A. for 65 and 58 respeeticely put up very creditable performances. Pope secured 1T wickets' in the two innings and Hernmingson five. 'Widdas is proving a useful mail for Y.M.C.A., and bowled very well on 'Saturday. ■

Martin with 25 top-scored fsr Y.M.C.A. in the first innings, but was caught .early in the second innings by Eagle off Pope. Y.M.C.A. utilised its howling more in last Saturday’s match than in any previous fixture this season. - This is good policy, and must have results. The wickets were >ve7l, divided be-t-wissi’ Auekram, Widdas and, Field. "In’ the field, Y.M.C.A. showed to better advantage than their opponents, their work being smarter and cleaner. * , With Shannon and Weraroa level pegging,, and. . Y.M.C.A. only two points behind, Hie'Competition is liecoming interesting, and the third 1 round promises to be keenly contested "by these teams. , Complaint lias been made, and. not without cause, of the late arrival' of some teams on the ground, and YVeraroa is one of the worst offenders. Ijhere is .no excuse, especially in a home match,... and if a team is) penalised it lias no one to blame but itself. .
