WILL MANGAHAO BE READY.

POWER BOARD DOUBTFUL

At last meeting of the Tararua Power Board, the Board went into committee) to discuss a letter from the engineers - regarding the time when the power from Mangahao would be available. Resuming open meeting, the chairman moved the following motion:—

"That, in view of the fact that all boards to receive, their current from Mangalhao are pushing ahead with their construction work so that they will be ready to receive tha current at the end of 1923, a deputation consisting of the chairmen of the: respective boards and the M.P.'s of the districts be set up to wait upon tha Minister of Public Works, to get his complete assurance that Mangahao will be ready at the schedule time. It is to be pointed out to the Minister that any delay will ba serious for the boards, as capital expenditure . must be productive immediately the boards are ready to receive the power. A copy of this resolution is to be sent out at once to all boards with a request, that they acquiesce in order that the board may be able to call the conference together at the earliest opportunity.

The chairman considered it was essential that the boards interested should have an immediate assurance from tha Minister as to when the power would be available. At present, notwithstanding the Minister's statements that the supply would be ready by the end of 1923, there appeared to be some doubt on the. matter. Members concurred with the chairman's views that it Was desirable to know the time when the power would be available, so as the board could arrange its programme accordingly.

Mr F. Craven seconded the motion which was carried.
