The Taranaki News states that Mr J. S. Connett, chairman of the Taranaki County Council, has tendered his resignation as the result of objections taken by the Audit Department to his action in using part of the county plant for work on his property at Bell Block. As Mr Connett had paid lor the use of the plant, and everything was done above board, the Council passed a resolution' expressing their sympathy with the ex-chairman and confidence in his control of county j matters. The Maoriland Worker is on ihe "black list" at the Wanganui Public Library, the Mayor having banned it. The subject Was brought up at Ihe Council table! by Cr. Reardon. The Mayor justified his action, and said that the Worker, the Sentinel and other papers which caused dissension should not be allowed on the Library tables. Cr. Burgess asked if the Worker was not a paper which had been disloyal during the war. Cr. Reardon (to the Mayor): "I heard Sentinel mentioned. You will get into trouble if you say these things too loudly." Mr Murdh said several papers were placed in the 1 reading rooms by private persons without the knowledge of the authorities/and the librarian was instructed to remove them. The subject was referred to the Library Committee.
A resident of Weraroa, who has been a workman at the Central velopment Farm for 18 years, and walks up and down dally, covers on an average 25 miles a week, or 600 miles a year. During his lengthy employment he has therefore walked 10,800 miles to and from his daily toil.
