A resident of Makerua informed a Shannon News reporter yesterday that the benefits of the cut being put in by the Makerua Drainage Board’s dredge at Kara Creek were experienced during (he receni heavy rain. Previously, large quantities of water would be lying about for days, but this time it disappeared in a very short time, whilst the road bore no traces of surface water in the vicinity of the cut.

A mob of 68 ducks formed an interesting sight last, evening as they were flying over in one long string from Ibe direction of the bench to the upper reaches of the Ohau River. Though flying very high, the "quacking” of the birds could he distinctly heard.
