BOWLING.

GALA DAY AT SHANNON

On Saturday afternoon the gala day arranged by the Manawatu Centre was held on the Shannon green in anything but favourable bowling weather. During the early part of. the afternoon play was interrupted by showers, but nevertheless 'an enjoyable afternoon was spent by those present, and' some closely contested games were witnessed. Before the commencement of the play Mr W. McKegg, president of the local club, in welcoming the visitors, said the Shannon Club esteemed it a great favour to have the privilege of holding the gala day on their green, and hoped the visitors would enjoy a good afternoon’s sport. The following were the visiting rinks: Palmerston, Levin and Fox ton two rinks each, Maiiawatu-, Terrace End, and Northern one rink each. During the afternoon refreshments were dispensed by Mrs Whibley and were much appreciated. Following are the results of the games played:— Shannon Watterston, Gardner, Quarrie, Gagliardi (spik) 15, v. Levin —Brown (skip) 12. Shannon—Shannon, Aim, Spencer, McKegg (skip) 21, v. Palmerston— Williams (skip) 20. .Shannon—Mitchell, Tlensman, Farther, Knowles (skip) 14, v. Foxton— Nye (skip) 17. Shannon—Blight, Cooper, Whibley, Murphy (skip) 17, v. Northern (Palmerston North) Bailey (skip) 14. Shannon—H. Butt, Bovis, Gunning, Roach (skip) 12, v. Terrace -End—Edwards (skip) 27. Levin—lnder (skip) 15, v. Manawatu—Thomson (skip) 24. Foxton—Whibley (skip) 20, v. Palmerston— Bilderbeck (skip) 16.

SHIELD MATCHES POSTPONED. Owing to the heavy rain, during the night and morning, the Shannon gree is not in a lit stale for play tomorrow. The Triangular Shield contest lias therefore been postponed. It is now proposed to hold the second and third rounds on February 7 and 14 respectively.
