Mtrapatatuuu has already earned a reputation for the excellence of its sports meetings, but it can safely be. said that the Club excelled itself on Monday, and the day was the best yet recorded. Merchant at ere present, this being their first appearance in public since their arrival in New" Zealand. The Americans’ tour is being managed by the N.Z.A.A.A., and the latter body rvas represented by
Messrs A. T. Davies (president), V. ; Hugo (secretary), and A. C. Kitto and J. W. Heenan (members of the Council). Among other visitors was Mr We H. Field, M.P. Well-known Wellington: and provincial athletes were engaged iir various events, but the centre of attraction, of course, was the Americans.; The visitors, however, have only been!
a few days in the country, and could hardly be expected to have reached their true, form, and therefore only gave a few exhibition performances. These Avcnt to show that when they compete; in earnest later on they will keep our. top-notcliers busy. An exhibition race of 100 yards was run between the trio.

Merchant is a hammer-throwing specialist; and his work was very impressive, making a throw of 161 ft. With the ex-Aus-tralian champion, Munro, the American also gave an exhibitin of javelin and discus throwing'. Krogness is a liurd-; ler and high-jumper. He cleared the bar at sft. 7in., but failed.to negotiate' sft. 9in. The same athlotc started in; a heat of the 1-0 yards hurdles, and
after giving a why .1.4 yards start caught his opponent, W. Williams, when about

The day’s inegramnie was highly interesting, sml good competition was the order of the day, whilst the variety of events gave the spec!ators an athletic feast. »

managed. Everything vent like 4 clockwork, and Mi* R. Maclean (president), Messrs J. Be.rnett and D. Ilowell (joint secretaries) and the other officials; arc to be commended on their efforts. The Ilutt Band was present, and added; to the enjoyment of the day with a bright musical programme.
At the conclusion of the sports Mr Maclean presented the trophies to the 'winners, and also thanked the Americans for their presence, and gave thmn, an invitation to again visit “Pram.” Cheers were their given for the American and Wellington visitors, which were returned with equal vigour. • This brought to a close a most successful and enjoyable outing.

The scartch man got a break on the gun, and flying along in beautiful style won by throe yards in 9 4-ssoc. -from Merchant, who was 4 yards in front of Krogness.
