i ♦ , COMPETITIONS RESUME TO-MOR-ROW.
Tlie Horowhenua competitions resume to-morrow, when Y.M.C.A. meet Shannon on the latter’s ground, and Weraroa play Foxton at Levin. Public Works have a bye in the competition, and meet Weraroa B in a practice match on the Levin ground.
It Is expected Shannon will have a stronger side in the field on Saturday than they have (had out yet this season. This club has been unfortunate in having some of its players on the injured list, but their presence on Saturday will greatly strengthen the combination. Y.M.C.A. will have its usual eleven, and the game should be a pretty close one. The first match . between these clubs was one of the most exciting seen on the Levin ground, and to-mor-row’s fixture should be of the same order.
Since Foxton first met Weraroa, their team has been greatly strength ened. They have a useful howler in Howe, who is well backed up by Higgins. This pair in the first innings with Y.M.C.A. secured the ten wickets at a cost of 32 runs. If the team can do anything with the bat they should be capable of making a fair show against Weraroa. Weraroa is an improved team on last year’s forng and has been fortunate in having the services of McGill, Patrick, Conder and Casey, though the latter will not be available to-mor-row. The fielding has improved out of sight, and the side can claim to be a strong one. The present position of the teams, alter playing four matches each, is: Weraroa and Y.M.C.A. three wins each, Shannon two, and Foxton and Public Works one.
The entry of the Weraroa B team wiil give the team with the competition bye a practice game, which will fill the gap and keep the teams in form.
A rep. match with the Tararua SubAssociation is on the cards for Anniversary Day, and Selector O’Connor is casting his eye about for likely players. They don’t waste time over thencricket at Otaki. In a recent competition game the two teams completed an innings each in three-quarters ot an hour. Needless to say the scoring was not heavy. Y.M.C.A. team to play Shannon: Martin, Auckram, Griffin, J. Harris,' Murray, Moodie, Widdas, Mackenzie, Field, Tingey and Hudson. The tern: will leave the Post Office corner at 12.45. Weraroa team v. Foxton: O’Connor, McGill, Claridge, Patrick, Thomas, Conder, Hughes, Pringle, Sloan, Hall and Bevan.
E. Aim, a Shannon boy attending the Palmerston North High School, has been selected to play for Maiiawatu against Auckland colts at Palmerston North to-day.
The Shannon Cricket Club are unfortunate in losing the services of R. Menvood, who lias left the district and is now residing in Feilding.
The Shannon Cricket Club have now got the net erected for which funds were raised by a.guessing competition, and it- is proving a great boon to players in their practices.
The following players have been chosen to represent Shannon v. Y.M.C.A. on Saturday, January 6, at Shannon: Main, Randall, Drain, Rev. Abbott, Grainger, Mason, Small, Johnson, Hunt, Stew r art, Harris. Play will commence at 2 p.m. prompt.
