THE ELECTION.

A Reform Set-back STATE OF PARTIES UNCERTAIN Below will be found the latest returns from the electorates. The state of parties,is still indefinite and will remain so until several seats now in ‘doubt by reason o! the- outstanding absent votei's’ permits is decided. Meanwhile it. is clear that the Government has lost several seats and that it is uncertain whether Reiorm will have a majority over the other two parties.

RESULTS AT SHANNON, Soon after seven o'clock the crowd commenced to gather both at the Post Office and Maoriland Theatre, and by eight o'clock thei latter place was packed to its utmost, where the Shannon News screened the results as they come to hand. Keen interest was shown by the manner in which the results were received by those present, and much enthusiasm when the Labour Party’s successes were announced. The! licensing question results, around which much interest circled, were very slow coming through. During’ the evening Messrs. Dnklater and Whibley both visited Shannon, and returned thanks to the electors, while Mr Murdoch thanked them on behalf of Mr Flyger. It was after i a.m. before the Post Office closed, and it was then known of the many surprises that had come to hand.
