CRICKET.
.On Saturday, Y.M.C.A. met the Public Works team at Shannon, and won with four wickets to spare. Public Works batted first, and put on the respectable score of 114. Doidge was in good form with the: bat, and had 47 up before: he was well taken by Field off Auckram. Hemingson (26) was going well, and looked like making a. big score when he lost his wicket to a good ball from Tingey, and Murray (19), the other double-figure batsman, was out caught and bowled by Field. Y.M.C.A. made- a bad start, and with three wickets down for seven, their Chances did not look rosy. Mackenzie’s fine display, however, changed .the whole aspect of the game. He contributed an invaluable innings of 55, and was well supported by Martin 21 and Auckram 23 (not out), the total being 118 for six wickets. Scores:—

SHANNON EASILY DEFEATS FOXTON. This match was played at Foxton on Saturday, and proved an easy victory for Shannon. Foxton batted first and made: a poor stand against the bowling of Grainger and Harris, who quickly dismissed the side for a total of 26 runs, Grainger doing the hat trick. On Shannon going to the wickets they soon made sufficient runs to win, Stewart knocking up 31 (not out) and Hunt. 25 (not out), the innings being closed with the loss of two wickets for 59 runs.
