RATEPAYERS TO CONSIDER WATER SUPPLY. !
Mr T. F. Martin, who is consulting solicitor to the Municipal Association of New Zealand, replying to the Council’s letter re Water supply rates and loan, stating as follows: The water supply rates under the Municipal Corporation Act, 1920, 82 and 84 are not the only moneys avail-; able for meeting interest and sinking fund on a loan for waterworks. Local bodies usually raise a special loan un : der the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, secured by a special rate, using if they so desire any surplus water supply rates in or towards payment of the interest and sinking fund, and levying as much of the special rates.as is required. The power to raise a special loan for waterworks is quite clear. Upon this advice being received, it was unanimously resolved that the water scheme as prepared by Mr Edwards be submitted to the ratepayers at a public meeting to be held as early as possible.
