Unite a number penetrated tne tunnels right up to the working laces, and evidenced great- interest in the various workings. By eight o’clock the recreation hut was filled with a happy sociable crowd. Included in me party were part of the Misses Williamson Orchestra, and alter these artistes had played a, very tuneiul overture, Mr E. L. Wain (Y.M.G.A. secretary) welcomed the visitors xto the camp in a neat speech, and then handed the control over to the M.G.’s (Messrs/ Masters and Gray) for dancing. The floor was in excellent order, and with the sweet melody of the orchestra everything went with a swing. It was easily the largest dance held in the hut to date, each of the square dances comprising eight sets. A sumptuous supper was served at 11 p.m., and dancing was continued until 1 a. in,- The ladies were loud in their praise of the recreation given them, and the c-amp community thoroughly appreciated, the visit of the party and the splendid entertainment given. When a vote of thanks was passed to the ladies, the workers sang lustily “For they are jolly good fellows," and gave three ringing cheers. Quite a quantity of the machinery and equipment for putting in concrete at both the Mangahao and Arapeti dams is now on hand, and everything points to a start being made with this branch of the work early in the New Year. The excavations s-.re proceeding satisfactorily, and good progress is being made. At Arapeti an auxiliary darn is “tripped” three times in every twenty-four hours, and the large volume of water sluices out a large quantity of spoil on each occasion with ease -and economy.
