FESTAL FAIR.

A GREAT SUCCESS

The Festal Fair was’ continued on Friday night; the weather conditions were good, and a large crowd assembled to have a good time. Judging by the laughter heard and the goodwill lelt, there were competitions to suit all, and they were entered into most heartily. The, bed-making ior men caused much amusement and Interest, and proved that they could be valued assistants in household duties. The hairdressing, also ior men, wae mirthprovoking. Six young ladies sat as hairdressers’ models. The result was most becoming—and otherwise. The candle-lighting, both for men and ladies, created an immense amount, of interest, to say nothing oi the blisters. There were other competitions, such as shooting tor men, nail-driving for ladies and men.

The baker’s oven and village pump for the children were largely patronised, and caused a great deal of fun for the young folks. The various stalls and tea-rooms were also wfdl patronised. The committee wish to heartily thank every one who assisted in any way to make the Festal Fair the success it undoubtedly proved. The winners of the competitions are- as/

follows:.Men’s shooting, Mr Quarrie, Mr Thompson, M rTurau;'men’s naildriving, Mr Gray, Mr Hyde; ladies’ nail-driving, Mrs Patton, Miss Spring, Miss Davis; bed-making, Mr Riches; candle-lighting, Miss Evans (both nights); human weight guessing, Miss Annie Brown; cake weight guessing, Mr A. Johnstone, Miss F. Butler; cake measurement, four tied for this, and the cake was divided between Mrs Patton, the Misses Wigan, McKegg and Marden; doll’s cof, Mrs Vaughan; fur collar, Mrs Newth; painted cushion, Mrs Torrey; tray cloth, Mrs Waring Taylor; jumper set, Mr W. O’Keefe; children’s competition for best, sentence (dressed doll), Sylvia Charles.
