SHANNON TOO GOOD FOR PUBLIC WORKS.
A match that has been causing’ a great deal of interest was played, in Shannon on Saturday between the two local teams, 'Public Works and Shannon. The Shannon team represents the old club that has been in Shannon for many years, and has played with a considerable amount of success, having got its name on the Hugh Hall Shield four times, the next nearest to them having two. The new club is the Public Works Club, and although they had hopes of beating the Shannon team, they failed in their batting and only knocked up 48 runs, Randall securing five wickets for 22 runs against them, Grainger three for 17, and Stewart two for 9. Shannon lost the toss, and were sent to the wickets first and 122 runs resulted. Hunt, who is a lad of 15 years, topped the score with 28, and Stewart 25, Grainger 21, Randall 12, were the double-figure scorers. Prain, the Shannon wicketkeeper, was in great form, taking two lightning catches, and also stumping one scores:— SHANNON.
