The matches postponed from last Saturday will he played to-morrow. They are Weraroa v. Y.M.C.A. at Levin, and Shannon v. Public Works at Shannon. Foxtoh has a bye. Cricket is taking on well in Otaki this season. The Tainui and Otaki clubs 'have combined, and it is expected they will put two senior teams in tlue southern competition. A third team from the recently-formed Railway Cluh will also enter this competition.

Following is the Y.M.C.A. team to meat Weraroa on Saturday. Auckram, McKenzie, Moodie, Martin, Tingey, Murray, Hudson, Fletcher, Field, J. Harris, Griffin. Emergencies, L. Harris and Dufresne.

The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, is a good all-round sport. He selected a cricket team to play Christ’s College at Christchurch last week, arid defeattihe College team by 29 runs. With a slow break ball, Lord Jellicoe secured four wickets for 29 runs.

The following will represent Shannon v. P.W.D. at Shannon on Saturday: Stewart, Grainger, Randall, Parsons, Harris, Abbott, Johnstone, Prain, Hunt, Ellwood, Mason, Small (twelfth man)*. The game commences at 2 p.m.

O’CONNOR CHALLENGE CUP.

FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS CRICKET CLUBS.

Mr J. O’Connor, the well known sporting enthusiast of Levin, has presented the Horowhenua Cricket Association with a cricket challenge cup to be played for by boys of Primary schools of this district. The cup, which is an exceedingly handsome one, may be competed for by boys up to an including, but not beyond Stahdary VI. The following are the rules diawn up by the sub-committee, and which will ge submitted to the Association for approval:— 1. The name of the trophy shall be the O’Connor Primary Schools’ Challenge Cup. 2. The Cup may be competed for by boys up to and including, but not beyond Standard VI.

3. Place of play: Each challenge match shall be played on q ground named by the holders; and in the order of challenges received. ■ 4. Time of play: Between 10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on' Saturdays. 5. Possession of Cup: Cup to be held by the winner until defeated. In the event of drawn game, holders retain the Cup. In the event of time not permitting two innings, the game will be decided upon the first- innings.

6. Engraving: Cup to be engraved only with the name of donor and title of the Cup. <

7. Challenges: A school once defeated may not play again until succeeding challenges, not already played, are completed. In no case can ai defeated school play again within four weeks from date of its defeat.

Opening date: The opening date for playing matches shall not be before November 1,

Closing date: To be decided, from time to timei by the Association. No matches will be played during midsummer holidays.

Failing to - play: In the event of the holders of the Cup failing to play, the Cup shall be forfeited to the challengers. In the event of challengers failing to play, such team shall be classed as a defeated team.

Postponed matches: In the event of postponement of a match, such match will be played on the first available Saturday. Matches may be postponed by mutual agreement in case of inclement weather.

Disputes: All disputes must be referred to the Association, the decision of which shall be final.

Material: The challenging team shall supply the ball, which must he of regulation size and weight. The holders shall supply stumps and pitch. List of players: Before the commencement of each match, the person in charge of Ihe challengers shall exchange with the person in charge of the defenders a list of his team and substitutes, signed and dated by the bead teacher or principal of the school to which they belong, with the statement that snob boys are not nbove Standard VI. in the Primary School, and are on the school roll. Each list must have been signed within one wieek of date of match.
