WATER SUPPLY FOR SHANNON.
PRESENT POSITION OF SCHEME.
Questions were asked at Tuesday’s meeting of the Shannon Borough Council as to the progress being made with the borough water scheme.
Cr. Hyde wanted to know when the Council was coming to a finality on the question of raising the loan for the scheme, and if anything was be-
ing done. The Mayor said the Engineer had been instructed to bring down an amended scheme, one on which they could rate on. Under the Act passed in 1920, the Council would be unable to raise the amount required, as the scheme stands at present, owing to the rateable valuation of the borough only allowing for £7500 for a waterworks scheme.
Cr. Hyde said if other places could raise large sums. for the purpose of installing a water supply, why cannot Shannon. He named several small boroughs.
Cr. Hyde then moved, and Cr. Fargher seconded, that the Council’s solicitor be written to for advice on the matter, which was carried.
Cr. Murray said it seemed to him that anything the Council wanted to do some obstacle was always in the way.
Cr. Gardner said the only thing was to try and get something they could raise the money for.
