Horticulturists and lovers of the beautiful in flowers who visited the Palmerston show this week were fortunate enough to see a rare specimen named the Bird of Paradise. The stalk of the flower is not unlike that of a ifly, and rises to a height of about 3ft 6in. The head of the stalk containing the bloom then falls over t.o almost right angles, and from it the flower bursts forth in the shape of a beautiful bird about to take flight. The colouring is in gorgeous and delicate tints that blended in perfect harmony and was greatly admired by all who saw it.
