KOPUTAROA MILL BURNT.
Mr E. J. Nash’s flaxmill at Koputaroa Wd« destroyed by fire yesterday morning■' Thei outbreak occurred at the rear of the scutching, shed, and the flames spread so rapidly that it was impossible to. get the fire under control. .
Yesterday the mill had temporarily run out of flax, and pending the arri--ui. of. supplies from the swamp, all hand*,, including Mr Nash, were at work- in the scutching shed. Everything was going w'ell when an alarm of fire w.as. given, the outbreak being discovered”outside the scutching shed. There was some wind at the time, and in a very short time, in spiter of the strenuous efforts of all hands, the flames spread to the- scutching shed, and in such inflammable material the shed and the mill were soon enveloped and were completely destroyed, nothing being saved. The mill, which ran a single stripper, had only resumed operations between two and three months ago. It. is not ascertainable at present what insurances, if any, were on the buildings and plant.
