A race between Gloaming anti Amythas is being looked forward to, and many expect to see a great finish fought out at Trentliam between the two cracks. They, however, will be disappointed as Amytlias will not be at his best by that time. Nat Williams is certainly improving the big fellow, but preparations take time. The Napier Park Racing CJub got a knock over its recent meeting, when their totalisator receipts dropped to £12,167, rvhich represented a decrease of £B9IB on its previous meeting. The black gelding Atapo, by Quaran-tine-Conqueror mare, formerly ' in charge of A. Atwood, is now trained by Alf. Shcarsby.
Flcuriste, which ran 4 second to his stable companion (Rostrum) in the Epsom Handicap at the A.J.C. meeting, is a highly-bred English horse by Bonarosa from Florentine.
Word comes from Bulls that Mr Gais-. ford's team—Mattock, Mark Time,
I'Koauau and Projector—are doing all that is required of them on the tracks. Celmisia, which has been showing signs of soreness, is undergoing the rest cure. The scratching of Tame Fox for the New Zealand Cup came as a surprise to many. He ran fifth in the Avondale Cup after getting a bad run. Tame Fox is a useful sort, and can be ticked off to win a substantial race later on. Complimentary and Adrina, which have been the care of E. Penman, Otalci, have been returned home to Marton and Bulls respectively. The first-men-tioned had been shaping well on the tracks, but her running at the Otaki meeting was disappointing. Penman has two newcomers in his stable, the hurdler Sonnino and a mare by Merry Moment—Jeanne d'Arc. Detroit is still spelling. Rowan, which looks well after his recent spell, is again in work at Awapuni. His name appears in the list of hurdlers at the Trentham fixture. Alex. Browne has also engaged Pantlcr, Benmure and Mountain Signal.
