SHANNON CRICKET GROUND.

I {bore .ST TO BOROUGH COUNCIL. At tile Council's meeting on Tuesday, a deputation from ‘the Shannon Cricket Club, consisting of Messrs. Randall, G. Quarrie and Grainger, waited on the Council in reference to geiting 1 lie grass cut on the cricket ground on the reserve.Mr Randall, who acted as spokesman, Mated the uoubie was an oldstanding one. The club had come lo the conclusion that it- was necessary to have a liorse-mower to- keep it in order, as the present method oi cutting was unsatisfactory, and the fact of grazing stock there made the ground always in a filthy state. He considered stock should be kept off during the cricket season. He whited to know if the Council would entertain purchasing a horse-mower, and stated his club would contribute towards it, and that the Football Club would also make a contribution. The cost would he about £‘4o, and he felt sure if the club were collecting lor that purpose they would get the money.

The Mayor said that at the present time the-Council was short of money, and that if the 1 sports bodies put their heads together to get the money the Council would help. Cr. Hyde said the time was coming when it would be necessary lor the Council to get a mower for its reserves, and they could then do all the work.

Mr Randall said they made the suggestion a.s a business proposition. The Mayor said if they had brought the matter up before the estimates were struck something could have been done-.

Cr. Hook suggested getting quotes. The Mayor: If the sports clubs will see what they can get, the Council will help’.

Mr Randall :Woul(l it he possible to know by November?

The Mayor thought, it would. Cr. Hook then proposed, and ’'Cr. Richardson seconded, that the Council advertise- lor a horse lawn-mower.
