HOROWHENUA CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting ol the Association was held in Levin on Wednesday. The president (Mr H. Hook) was in the chair, and the iollowing delegates were present: Messrs. F. Main and. L. Randall (Shannon), It. Martin and H. Murray (Y.M.C.A.), G. Thomas (Weraroa), and A. H. Morgan (secretary). The balance-sheet presented showed a credit ol £3 0/6, which would be increased to £5 0/6 with further lees to come in.
The election ol' officers resulted: Patron, Mr A. Dinnie; president, Mr H. Hook (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr A. 1-1. Morgan (re-elect-ed); vice-presidents, Messes.!. Cam.-ruii, A. Hawke, J. D. Adams, John Kebbell (Levin), W. Melvegg and P. J. Goodwin (Shannon).
The Manawatu Cricket Association notified that the annual meeting of that body, with which Hovowhenua was affiliated as a sub-association, would be held in Palmerston North on October 26. —Received. The Foxton Cricket Club wrote asking if a Wednesday competition could he arranged, it would suit Foxiun to play on Wednesday,\atid would help on the game in that district.
The secretary said he was in communication with Foxton, and more information would be available at next (meeting. It was decided, on Mr Randall's motion, to affiliate with the Manawatu Association, Mr Morgan being reelected delegate to that body. Tire Shannon, Y.M.C.A. and Weraroa clubs were nominated for this year's competition, the nominations being- Jei't open till a fortnight previous to the opening of the competition, its there was a possibility ol Foxton and Manakau coming in. It was decided to open the comjteiit Lou on Saturday, November 4. The conditions of play were fixed on the same lines as Jast year—one ,day matches, two points for a win and one for a draw.
Tlie Y.M.C.A. delegates intimated that tlieir dub favoured two-innings matches, extending, if necessary, to two days. The Weraroa and Shannon representatives supported the same conditions as last year, which were the one-day fixtures, and this was adopted. On Mr Randall’s motion, it. was decided that, affiliation fees to the Association be paid by January 31, 1921. The question of a juior compelition was deferred till next meeting of the Association. The president said _ his offer of a cup for this grade last season would hold good this year. The Shannon representatives stated tlieir dub would support a sole selector being oppointed lor rep. games, as last season’s arrangement for three selectors did not work satisfactorily. Mr O’Connor (Weraroa) was nominated for the position.
The question of umpires was raised by Mr Murray, who said an improvement was necessary on the old system. Mr Thomas moved, and it was carried, that clubs be invited to nominate umpires, nominations to be in at the next Association meeting. Mr Martin said complaints had been made regarding the loss of time between the tall, of wickets. Last year a lot of time was wasted in this way. The same thing happened between innings. < Mr Randall considered this could be remedied by the captains drawing the attention oi their players to the fact that two minutes only were allowed between the tall of wickets and ten minutes between innings. He moved accordingly, and the motion was carried.
Votes of thanks to the outgoing officers and the chair closed the meeting.
The Foxton Cricket Club are. entering a team for the senior grade competition. There will now he four teams competing in the northern portion of Horowhenua, viz., Levin (2), Shannon and Foxton.
The next meeting of the 1-lorowh'e-nua.‘'Cricket Association will he held at Shannon on October 25.
